I do and so do lots of my clients.
It’s hard to know what to give the person who has everything. But you can’t miss with a portrait of someone they love.
Many of my commissioned portraits are surprise gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and just to say “I love you.”
Below are a few surprise portraits I’ve recently painted for families all over the country. I adore creating children’s portrait paintings. Can you tell?
A grandmother in Arkansas emailed a vacation snapshot of her granddaughters so I could paint this surprise birthday gift for their mom.
This portrait with her stuffed animals was a surprise farewell gift for the little girl’s grandmother who was moving from Massachusetts to No. Carolina.
The painting of this little girl’s first birthday hangs next to the one I painted of her big brother when he turned one. They live in Washington, D.C. Their mom always orders an extra portrait as a surprise for their grandmother.
Last Christmas, a surprised mom in Bellevue, Washington received this portrait. Her husband had found me online and commissioned the wall painting. He put me in touch with their professional portrait photographer, the talented Jennifer Sutherland of Little Scooter Design and Photography.
Jennifer kindly emailed me the high resolution photograph my client asked me to reference. We discovered that Jennifer’s husband had worked with my daughter-in-law at Microsoft. Small world, thanks to the Internet!
