Project Description

I titled this genre painting of a scene in Rome, “Due.” “Due” means “two” in Italian and alludes to the bride and groom and also the order being placed by the woman at the table in front of us. We were seated at a trattoria, near the Coliseum. I noticed a bride and groom getting on and then quickly off a bus while being filmed by their videographer. It was a Sunday in Rome and we had seen bridal couples all over the city being photographed in front of monuments and doing fun things. The wedding albums and videos of Roman couples must be fabulous!  I loved painting all the people. It was definitely a “slice of life,” a genre painting of a scene in Rome.

Here is a family portrait I painted which has the feeling of a genre painting.
