Brother and Sister in a Watercolor Painting

I created this watercolor painting of a brother & sister, referring to my photos of them on our beach in California,. Their parents had commissioned me to paint the teenagers’ portrait. It was just prior to the daughter leaving for college in Boston. Knowing that his big sister would now be clear across the country was very sad for her brother. It was a poignant moment I’ll never forget.

I wanted the painting to convey both the strength and subtle nuances of a brother and sister’s relationship, from their expressions to the way they sat together. It is a beautiful reminder of the unique and precious connection that only siblings can share. Enjoy!
