Project Description

It was an honor for me to create these portrait paintings of men for a San Francisco hospital display. I was commissioned by the Gensler design consulting firm. They were designing the foyer of a San Francisco orthopedic hospital and needed portrait paintings of the hospital’s chief surgeons through the years. The reference photos were very different in style and period. To give the display impact and a sense of timelessness, I worked with each portrait in sepia to unify the overall appearance of the display. I cropped the poses to be as much alike as possible, created matching backgrounds, and luckily my decision to paint in sepia complements the bronze colors being used in the foyer display. A big challenge and great fun for me!

“Great news, Nomi! All six portrait paintings of the men have been approved by our client. They are very impressed with your work. It has been a pleasure working with you. Thank you again for the beautiful paintings. It will be a stunning display.”
